Summer 2009 Fanart Webathon - "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going... to the ComicCon".
Yet another homage to Mari, our dear cartoonist.
We are 5 moneyless artists (or more if they decide to join in), willing to create fanart to match your contribution to Mari's "Donate" link. Last year's webathon, while being pretty good, didn't reach many of the potential donors, who may have budgeted less than US$20 for webcomic support. We want to solve that gap.
Also, we want to let the fans decide on the contributions required to get a matching artpiece. So, an eBay auction model will be used to decide on the "price" of art pieces.
We want to make it exciting and enjoyable to the community, so if you have already ordered a boardie-art in December, there's also the option of requesting art based on your favorite fanfic, or gifting boardie art of another boardie.
Finally, if the artist offers the option from the start, you may get hybrid fanart: sketched by the artist you "won" art from, but inked and colored by other artist(s).
Rules:
1. Once the webathon thread starts, the first artist will offer a piece of art to the community and start their price at $10. At this point, the artist will offer the option of "outsourced" inking and/or colorization if the artist desires to offer it.
2. Boardies have 48 hours to submit their donation pledges towards that artist. Boardies: do not donate if you haven't been selected the winner.
3. Once you have been selected the winner, make the donation to Maritza.
4. Pledges/donations of $10 to $14.99 will go towards a penciled sketch.
Pledges/donations of $15 to $19.99 will get inked art.
Pledges/donations of $20 or more will merit inked and colorized art.
5. The winning boardie then has 24 hours to order art and specify whether they want outsourced inking and coloring or not (if the option was offered by the artist). If outsourced inking and/or coloring is selected, the sketch artist will be the one to select the inking and/or coloring artist, who will remain unknown to the winning bidder, until the art is done, as a surprise to the bidder.
6. The artist then has 2 weeks to deliver art, including coloring. The amount of work spent on a drawing shall be 10 hours at maximum, as this is volunteer work.
7. The second artist in the queue will announce the auction of their art within 24 hours of the winner selection of the previous auction. Artists will communicate amongst themselves, should one want/need to skip a turn.
This webathon is not of unlimited nature. We artists will use our judgement to stop the webathon at some point.
The first "webathonist" will be announced tonight (EST). Read the rules, understand them, and think that Maritza may be incurring in large expenses because of her trip to San Diego. Also, do it in appreciation of the uninterrupted CRFH strips we get this month.
If you are planning to get the CRFH CD, get it. Then come to this thread to share more support.
Once again, check this thread again tonight.[img][/img]

I specialize in whimsical situations, cute stuff, things that make you go “Awww”… Portraits and action shots do not faze me.
For this particular auction, I am offering the following:
BID---------------Offer
$10 - $14.99 : Penciled sketch/drawing by me
$15 - $19.99 : Inked drawing - inking done by myself
$20 and more : Inked and colored drawing - coloring done by myself, or you may request to have someone else do the coloring. If coloring by another artist is requested, the name of the coloring artist will not be revealed until the artwork is done and published.
This auction will close on June 17, 2009, at 10am, EST(DST) (Eastern Standard Time (Daylight Savings Time) - GMT - 4)
Once the winner is determined, he or she will have 24 hours to contact me and let me know what kind of drawing they would like to get, including the options selected for coloring.
From that point on, the drawing will be completed within two weeks.
Thank you, wacko, for your starting bid. I hope more will bid soon...
Meanwhile, I can't help but wonder... Either my art is not really sought for, or people have not quite understood the concept... (That, or the recession is really taking its toll on the boardies...)
The concept is that I am currently offering to do a drawing for a boardie, specifying the technical options available for the various bid levels, and boardies have to bid, eBay-like, for it. Once a winner is declared, said winner pays for his bid via Maritza's Donate link, and contacts me to tell me what he would like me to draw, and I draw it.
A new auction starts, with another artist making an offering for bids once a winner has been declared for the first auction. As much bidding as possible for each auction is encouraged (this is, after all, an effort to try to raise money for Maritza, while giving you something in return), and only the top bid will take it (and, consequently, only the top bidder for a specific auction will have to pay).
In theory, while early auctions might see some boardies repeatedly get outbid, as the number of auctions increase, every one will get a chance to win an auction, as those who had outbid them before now have a drawing to show for it and may choose to sit out on future auctions.
BTW, in case this wasn't clear, all bidding is done in US$.
Keep in mind that Lake Wrangler's art pieces pay a lot of attention to detail, not to mention the uniqueness in his style (more illustration-like rather than anime, in my eye), and quality (which can be easily appreciated in the inked pictures in his gallery).
And "why in the world do I need to order art in this recession" you might be asking? Maybe not for yourself, but for that special boardie in your life, as a handmade gift that didn't come from a mega-corp. Or maybe for that fanfic that made your day/week a few months or years ago, and you never had the chance pay tribute.
Remember that the proceedings go to Mari 100% and counts towards the donation meter.
Officially, my art auction ends in two hours. However, I was up all night, and I am about to take a nap. When I wake up, I will have several things to do... So I will look in on this thread tonight to declare a winner. Hopefully, more boardies will have bid, by then.
Summer 2009 Fanart Webathon - "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going... to the ComicCon".
Yet another homage to Mari, our dear cartoonist.
The first art auction is now officially ended.
The winner is declared to be wacko, with a bid of $15.
He will therefore merit an inked drawing.
Wacko, please make your donation of $15 to Maritza (via the Donate link), and PM me to let me know what you would like me to draw, as well as any pertinent details if it is a character I am not familiar with.
Another webartist will soon post another auction, for the Fanart Webathon 2009 to continue.

Well, to make it even more interesting, let's have a raffle!
At the end of the whole event, every auction winner will get his/her name in a raffle ticket. I'm going to pick one at random, and then he/she gets a digital drawing of their choice (usual restrictions apply, blablabla...)
Furthermore, the artists that are participating will get a raffle of their own, and a drawing as well! _________________ College Roomies from Hell!!!

FYI, the vast majority of my art is sketched in pen/pencil, then traced in vector illustrating software (various softwares tried through the years, now settled to Inkscape), then colored in the same illustrating software. This way, the art is resolution independent, scalable to a million percent.
This auction will close on June 19, 2009, at 11:16pm, EST.
Once the winner is determined, he or she will have 24 hours to contact me and let me know what kind of drawing they would like to get, including the options selected for coloring.
From that point on, the drawing will be completed within two weeks.

Asi, el proyecto se pone mucho mas apetitoso. Muchisimas gracias.
Oh. And by the way. Are you an artistically inclined boardie willing to help this cause? PM me.
