Interesting. I was wondering about Mike's motives too...
Given the timing, it might be because Mike assumes Stanny will brag about April's pregnancy if given an opportunity.

Woah, bright sunlight! Steve and Waldo look pale, compared to Mike...
While I still don't like the extra inking below the nose for shading, I have to admit Maritza really caught the coy, knowing smile on Mike's face in that last panel!
Would it be safe to say "I hope this does't backfire", or do we assume it will, on the sole basis of this being CRFH!!! ? |

Heh. I have to clean my bathroom today too. Wonder if I can get a zombie slave to do it for me? Also, seems like the Goddess had a few problems with Windows. 
Mike is totally going to chat with Satan about April's pregnancy. Then Satan will say the baby is better off with La Dragonne anyway. Then Mike will panic. |

So yeah, it seems official now: S&W's ritual failed completely. I'm shocked.
While there's no surprises in knowing those two are completely clueless about Stan The Man's plans for Mike, I think it's kind of impractical for the Horny One to allow someone as unpredictable and dumb as the Dork Duo to be around Mike without any kind of supervision. After all, Stan wants Mike alive and well -for now, at least- and we all know S&W are notorious for screwing up on cue.
In other news, Mike is a slow learner

Too bad Mike probably hasn't noticed Margaret is tailing them. If Margaret follows them to whatever place Steve and Waldo feel like making the invocation in, then she's pretty likely to interfere

Rereading that comic makes me wonder whether we didn't catch a glimpse of Archangel Michael at that time. "You still c-can't CONTAIN me, bitch. I am... STILL bigger... than you..."
I think Mike may be planning for Steve and Waldo to summon Satan and ask him what his purpose for Mike is. Could be Satan will release some interesting tidbits that would be useful for NOES to know. "Zombie slave Mike" may not necessarily be in the same room as them, but you can bet he'll be listening at the door if possible. |

As I said earlier, he may be hoping to bait Stanny into revealing what Mike wants to know by gloating. Stanny may not have any reason not to, after all.
Alternatively, it can be possible to work out the truth from what someone says and doesn't say, if you keep your wits about you. Whether Mike can actually pull this off from within a 20-year0old brain is another question, though.

Just as there is "more than one way to skin a cat", I'm sure there is more than one way to "shoot the breeze with a devil". What I'm worried about is that "Captain Horny" has lived longer than just about anything under God, and he's spent the bulk of that time screwing with people's minds. I'm pretty sure that Stanny could successfully lay down some reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse psychology for days on end without breaking a sweat. Twenty-year-old-brains are that guy's bread and butter.

Is Stan the Man really that hard to fool? Is he really unbeatable? I mean, we have seen he's powerful and very cunning, but, is he really **THE** Prince of Lies? Is he really as old as Creation itself?
Who is Captain Horny?
Is he... SATAN???
Or is he just an infernal lieutenant with enough ambition and chutzpah to take on a squid-armed archangel and his mutant buddies?

That question is why some consistently refer to him as Ol' Hornhead, etc.
In fact, there was a fanfic where Ol' Hornhead turned out to be a demon named Dis . . . Satan was someone else entirely and boy was he ticked at Dis when he found out what had been happening . . .

Back on track, I wasn't really questioning the resident demon's identity. In fact, I can't help but feel that his identity is somewhat moot; even "lesser" demons should not be trifled with. Whether you're flattened by a 10-ton falling weight or a 10,000-ton falling weight, you're still equally screwed.
What I was wondering was how Mike could FORCE a devil to be useful, as there is no way he can trust a flat-out answer, and the demon probably wont be feeling charitable. |

Plus, Mike might not be planning to confront Stanny directly. If Ol' Hornhead isn't as omniscient as he claims to be, he may have no reason to lie to the Terrible Two if he doesn't realise Mike is listening in.

Indeed. Mike may be able to glean some information regarding Captain Horny's plans based on what instructions W&S give to "slave" Mike. Mike then has the option to deliberately foul up those instructions, potentially landing W&S in direct trouble with Stanny. If Mike succeeds, he may even get Stanny to quit his association with Waldo and Steve... possibly permanently.
